Here is the Oscar Wilde text that I highly recommend reading:
There are points which I personally disagree with but nonetheless it is an enlightening piece. Some time ago I sought to understand it, but this attempt seems to be more fruitful. For one, I seek to change my approach to altruism. Not that I was ever very agreeable with what Mother Theresa did - I am not disagreeing that she was respectable in certain manner, yet the lack of foresight for the future of the poor and diseased had always been my real issue. Equally so, ground-level volunteerism perplex me. Should the provision of manual labor be at all lauded for? All these talk about building this and that for the village people; teaching rural children some English for a month or two, then leaving them in the lurch... Stuff like that. I am indeed in no position to demand a conclusion, and so I have settled instead for [objective] journalism. Problems of which have been discussed in Wilde's writing, yet, is not the impetus for individualism a fruit of subversive publications - one such as this that I had just read? Should journalism be tackled with untainted ethics arising from the goodness of human nature rather than societal culture [in other words, pressure], I believe it to be beneficial and progressive.
Enlivenment. A paper+wood lamp that I acquired in Chiang Mai for US$5 is now illuminating my desk. Just a random shot I found on my phone. Texturized it randomly and here it is. And yes, I'm a slave of capitalism.
