Nong Khai - Bangkok (22-May-2012)
3rd class seats on board State Railway of Thailand (SRT). I'd heavily relied on it to get around, & can easily say that it's a worthy bargain. I've altogether no concept of how the 1st and 2nd classes are, because the 3rd class is, in fact, truly sufficient to get by. No doubt the backrests are almost too perpendicular for any comfort on overnight journeys, one is entitled to the full-length of the seat to lie down should the cabins not be packed, which is usually the case. Conductors seem to pay no heed to people doing so, nor do they even bother if you did not sit at the seat allocated to you on the ticket (as long as you DO have a ticket!).
A brief 1-day stay in Bangkok warranted the luxury of a Black Canyon Coffee.
And then there was this ridiculous "Oldies Cafe" where we really couldn't determine how we ended up at.
Much as the theme of the cafe being a bit of a mess-up, I'm not even sure if the dishes served were even worth the price.
So, there they were, studying the bill in awe.
Krispy Kreme was altogether another matter - and a comfort. Dara was profoundly amazed at having found one in Bangkok, so we had to find it, & stop by for his sake.
These were the final choices amongst the entire array of donut contenders in the glass case, but personally, Original Glazed is the ultimate winner!! 27baht would've amounted to slightly less than one US dollar. Worth it, mindful of the resulting sugar rush.
So that was how we concluded the day, having been in 3 countries over the span of 2 days, and a 4th upcoming one, on the subsequent day.
